How to Truly Celebrate Independence Day

The best way to honor our first 250 years is to protect the next 250

We shouldn’t be here. This is not the natural evolution of democracy.

This was planned. Purposeful. Patient.

Our democracy is suffering a death by a thousand cuts from the decades-long rise of oligarchy.

They took what they could and broke what they couldn’t. Then they told us who to blame while promising to protect us.

We believed their promises. We accepted what they did. In doing so, we let them write our future.

They have brought us to the brink, tragically, as we celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary.

But anniversaries aren’t just about looking back. They’re about deciding what comes next.

Instead of allowing this to become a tragic moment, let’s make it a turning point. The 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding is the perfect time to reclaim the promise of We the People.

The best way to celebrate the first 250 years is to protect the next 250. That means freeing ourselves from the grip of oligarchy, rebuilding a truth-based civil society, and leaving a stronger democracy for future generations.

This is the moment for Americans to answer democracy’s call. Millions of everyday acts of citizenship. Ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things: stepping outside their comfort zones, engaging more deeply in the democratic process, strengthening their communities, and rebuilding our democracy one conversation at a time.

We aren’t a divided nation. We are being intentionally divided.

We didn’t choose propaganda. We were immersed in it.

We didn’t tune out. We were overwhelmed.

We didn’t lose our way. It was stolen from us.

It’s time to take it back…
