The Movement

This movement is about saving democracy through conversations across America.

It’s a grassroots effort built on thousands of private, one-on-one conversations done differently.

It is founded on the understanding that we cannot move forward as a divided nation.

It is motivated by the recognition that we can no longer rely on our institutions to fix this.

It is driven by the dangerous reality that the forces that divided us are still working against us.

For real and lasting change, the solution cannot be top-down; it must be bottom-up. The rebuilding of our society must be organic, and it’s up to each of us to reach out to those who have given up on our democracy.

It doesn’t matter whether they’re Trump supporters or simply disengaged from politics; we need to help them embrace a society grounded in truth, engagement, and cooperation.

Yes, these conversations can be difficult. Many of us have tried, only to be frustrated. But the reality is, we were doing them wrong. Traditional arguments based on logic and facts often backfire when opposing beliefs are rooted in identity, group belonging, and fear, much of which has been shaped by highly effective propaganda.

Fortunately, experts know how to approach and have these conversations, even the more difficult ones.

The pages on this site are designed to show that these conversations can be successful. They provide rationale and motivation, along with a framework and guidelines for engaging in them. Additional external resources are also made available.

This is about more than pulling people away from Trump and MAGA. It is the first step toward rebuilding a more civil society. It is something we must do regardless. Our democracy cannot survive as divided as we are, especially with the seemingly endless supply of propagandists and oligarchs working to keep us this way.
